Growing up in Altamont was a special experience that I did not quite grasp the value of until I was a bit older. A common phrase I heard as a teenager from my peers here in Altamont was, “I can’t wait to grow up and move to a city or another state!”. Many of us did move away after graduation from GHS, me included. What I did not know at the time, was how desperately I would want to return home to our quaint little village once I had left. My daughter was born in 2001, and then my son in 2005. We were living in a nearby city. One day, while I was researching the schools, I realized no where else could compare to Altamont Elementary. I remembered “Jelly Bean Field Day”, “Voyage of the Mimi”, “Soak the Doak” and so many other events and people that I have fond memories of. The schools I researched for my children at the time just could not measure up to AES. To me, the decision to move back home to Altamont in 2008 as a single mom with two little ones in tow, was a simple one.

Since I came back in 2008, my children went through Altamont Elementary and have many lovely memories of their time there, as I do. Watching them enjoy Jelly Bean Field Day and getting to know teachers I once had during my time at AES was magical to me. That is how I can best describe Altamont. Our little village is magical.

I married my husband, Jim, in 2011 in the Glen Doone at Thacher Park. He is a fellow Altamont native – or as I like to say, he is an “Altamontian”. We bought our first home together here in 2019. Interestingly, we purchased a home that belonged to the former Altamont Fair Manager, Reid and his wife Bobbi Northrup. Reid and Bobbie were also dear friends to my grandparents for many years. I appreciate that our home has links to Altamont history and to my family like that. Jim and I have three children: Alexis, Alex and Ahren (pronounced Aaron), affectionally dubbed “The A Team”. Alexis is a 2019 GHS graduate. Ahren is a sophomore and Alex will graduate this year. I work full time in the government banking industry and am working towards finishing my B.S. in business administration. In my free time I enjoy reading and spending time with my family.

I am both excited and honored to serve my beloved village. It is my hope that in doing so I am helping to keep the magic of Altamont, and everything that creates that magic, alive for many more generations of folks who choose to raise their families here. As I have gotten older, quite a few of my peers from my childhood have also returned home to Altamont to raise their families. These days, a common phrase I hear from them is, “there just isn’t a better place to raise a family than in Altamont!”.

I could not agree more.
