Winter Snow Removal and SafetyUpdated: 12/05/2007 From The Desk of Timothy McIntyre, Superintendent of Public Works:
REMINDERS Just a reminder to homeowners along sidewalk routes. Village Local Law # 3-93 Section 3 states: The owner or occupant of a house or building or vacant lot shall keep the sidewalk in front of thereof free from any obstuction of snow and ice. The Village DPW, in an effort to assist you, will run their snow machines on the most accessible sidewalks. Please help us help you by doing periodic maintenance and de-icing to ensure the sidewalks are safe for all choose to use them.
Sidewalks and Snow Under municipal law, it is the homeowners responsibility to remove snow and other hazards from their sidewalks. During light accumulations, homeowners are reminded to clear their sidewalks in a timely fashion. After a major snow storm, the Village will use its equipment to assist in snow removal from sidewalks. When this is done, please assist in the following: 1. Do not place trash containers or bags on sidewalks. 2. Please remove any debris prior to snow storm, to prevent injury to residents, village employee and/or equipment.
Safety and Snow Children love snow, It means building snowmen, huts and sledding. Please remind children not to build huts or play on snowbanks close to roadways. Drivers with plows may not visually see children or children may slide into path of plows. Also take the time to review safety at bus stops and road crossing with your children during the snow season.
